Worship in Charismatic Churches

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Church

The term charismatic comes from the Greek word that means gifts. This refers to the gifts of the Holy Spirit including healing, prophecy, and speaking in tongues. Charismatic churches in Lexington KY practise forms of charismatic worship, such as clapping, raising hands, speaking in tongues, and informal leading of prayers

Worship is not charismatic just because it either has musical instruments, choruses, clapping and dancing or is because it is spontaneous, exuberant and enjoyable. For Charismatic churches in Lexington KY, their worship must be marked by biblical control and by self control.  Biblical worship is not an ecstatic experience in which a person loses all the awareness of himself, the world and God but retains its sense of the holiness of God.   One must pray in the Spirit where He will teach what to pray for.  They believe that one cannot worship God in the way they like but in a way what He has commanded.   He is the one who instructs how a member prays.

The charismatic quality of Christian worship is evident in Charismatic churches during preaching, prayer and praise.  For them, the Holy Spirit gives the message cogency, pricking their conscience, causing them to tremble, overriding their prejudices, winning the consent of their intellects and opening their hearts to Christ. In Prayer, the Charismatic churches believed that the Spirit is the one who instructs them how to pray, with perseverance, boldness and adventurousness. During praise, the songs they sing are to be spiritual and cannot be equated just for hearty singing. For Charismatic churches, the melody comes from their hearts is the result of the Holy Spirit filling them up.

The worship music for Charismatic churches in Lexington KY is made up for three basic components. These components are melody, harmony and rhythm. A composer is first inspired by the pleasant thoughts that lead in the composition of the melody. Once he is finished with the melody, he will create the necessary harmony and use his intellect when he is on the aspect of composition. The composition is also given a pulse of rhythm which adds the bodily movements to the music.

Any musical instruments can be used for Charismatic worship. However, this does not mean that any type of instrument will be used. The Bible did not really specify what instruments must be used but they must choose the appropriate instruments to glorify God and not produce any carnal worship. Some even dance in thanksgiving for a good harvest and also for a victory in war.
